BOY SCOUT VALUES COMPASS

Boy Scout Value Compass

In 1998 I had the honor of speaking to the Will Marshall Class of Eagle Scouts in The DuPage Area Council (now Three Fires Council) of the Boy Scouts (western suburbs of Chicago). After reflecting on the fact that the Eagle Scout rank is the only Scout rank held for life, I shared with the new Eagles the values that I learned from Scouting and what these values had meant in my life. I then introduced what I call the Boy Scout Values Compass, and told them that whenever I had to make a tough ethical decision in my personal or business life, I would reflect on the values in this compass. I encouraged them to adopt the Boy Scout Values Compass in their lives. I shared that just as knowledge of a compass prevented them from getting lost in nature, the Boy Scout Values Compass would help prevent them from getting lost in life.

The Scout Oath The Scout Motto The Scout Law The Scout Slogan

On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;

To help other people at all times;

To keep myself physically strong
Mentally awake,
And morally straight.

Be Prepared. A Scout is trustworthy,
Loyal, helpful,
Friendly, courteous, kind,
Obedient, cheerful, thrifty,
Brave, clean and reverent.
Do a Good Turn Daily.
